Vintage Base Ball (the game was originally spelled as two words) has risen in popularity in the United States. Teams – often revived from actual clubs of the era – play the game wearing 19th century uniforms and by 19th century rules. Terms, such as "ballist" for a player; "crank" for a spectator; and "dead ball" for the type of device used, are in common use during the game. The clubs of today are sometimes associated with a historical society or living history museum.
